Football Whoos Don't Scare Me

Muncie, Ind.- As a youngster, I remember coming to watch Ball State football with my Dad, who is an alumni here at BSU. When I transferred to BSU this Fall, I was excited to see some great football. Frankly, no offense, Indiana State University football isn't that good, so I was pumped. I'm still pumped. After an undefeated regular season last year, the Cards started the year 0-2. Now it seems that everyone is calling it a season from hell.

Frankly, I'm sick of hearing about how embarrassing our BSU football team is in the Ball State Daily News. I might catch some flack from saying this, but haven't you ever heard the saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all." I know they call it hard news, but we should be providing encouragement to the BSU football team and students, not making them feel bad.

It's not the part of the school's newspaper reporter to ask the coach, why the game was an "embarrassment". Instead you should look forward and talk about what to do better for the next game or how the team is improving for the next game (Saturday September 20th @ Army).

Ok, so we lost to two good schools in North Texas and New Hampshire, but this shouldn't spell disaster. We have a young offensive line, with a redshirt freshmen (Kelly Page) at QB. We lost senior tight end Madaris Grant in the season opener. Yes, losing Grant is a big blow for the offense, but we still have senior standout MiQuale Lewis running the ball. The offense just needs a few weeks to jell together, and the outlook will become brighter.

I'm tired of hearing about negative publicity written about the Ball State football team. We are not that BAD, so do me a favor and quit writing about how much of an "embarassment" the game was. Instead write about the positives. For instance about what we can do to improve, and about how we are going to be playing an always good Army squad this saturday.

My view of the whole situation is we need time to adjust. Nate Davis went to the 49ers, but good for him. Time to move on. New coach (Stan Parrish), QB, and offense lines equals growing pains. The offense doesn't need to change one bit, they just need time.

If you want to way-in on this topic, send me a message in the comment box at the bottom of the page.

Thank You and Goodnight!!! Until next time this is Matt "Night" Rider for the BALL STATE BUZZ!!!!
